Warhol gained fame during the 1950s for his eccentric ink drawings of shoe advertisements. He had a background in commercial art as well, he was known as an early adopter of the silk screening process.
Warhol started exhibiting his art during the 1960’s and became known for the Iconic objects he created such as Marilyn Monroe, Campbell’s, Elvis Presley, and etc.
Culturally I think Warhol is important for the fact he was a gay artist that the art world at the time didn’t acknowledge until after his death.
I think Warhol and his work appeal to the public now, because as any trend starts off their are going to be people criticizing only because its something they havent seen before. Warhols work to me is what started the movement of changing the ways in how we define art today.
